Edgar finally getting some action

It is kind of odd that the Canadian footballer (or at least one who’s committed to Canada) playing at the highest possible level in the world right now has never been capped for the mens’ senior team.

Yes, Burnley’s David Edgar is still with us. He got his second start of the season away to Fulham earlier this evening and played the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 drubbing laid out by the home side.

Apparently he started at left back and struggled until he was moved to his natural position at centre back. The punters on the Burnley fan forum gave him middling reviews, although there was some consensus that he played better once shifted to the middle of defence. Sky Sports was more generous, handing him an eight out of 10 in their player ratings.

Edgar has begun to get action after riding the pine during the first half of the season. He started and played a full 90 minutes in a mid-January loss to Manchester United, and has come on as a sub in Burnley’s last two games – a loss to Chelsea and a win over West Ham.

Here’s to hoping we see him in a Canada shirt soon.

ps> Check out Canada and FC Inter Turku keeper David Monsalve’s personal blog. He was hyping it on Twitter today and promised to provide some updates on his recent stint with the Nats.

  1. This is much more tasteful than the “Jamie’s Finally Getting Some Action” post I was planning to write.

(Yeah, don’t bother trying to mesh that sentence with any kind of reality.)

  2. I have no idea why we have MLS players that would dream of playing in the premiership capped multiple times, when Edgar hasn’t been capped once. And we all know the risk of not capping a player. I have yet to see any explanation from anyone that makes sense.

  3. To be fair – and feel free to correct me here – but it’s my understanding that the CSA wants to cap him and has called him previously, but due to a combination of injury and niggly club situation the timing has just never quite worked out.
