Future still uncertain says Guevara

Here’s something not about Jacob Lensky. Amado Guevara is back in Honduras with his family, and according to comments he made this afternoon to the sports tabloid diez.hn, he is interested in playing for the Honduran club Motagua next winter in the buildup to the World Cup.

Motagua has already qualified for the playoffs in the Apertura, or the first of the Honduran league’s two seasons. The Clausura begins in January, and it is my understanding from the article that this is when Amado would begin playing.

“There is nothing defined with Motagua, and the (Honduran) League hasn’t finished so there are things I can’t talk about; it does not depend on me or on Motagua, but on the (Honduran) League and on Toronto whether I can play with Motagua for few months,” Guevara said.

The article also quotes him saying that he has a contract with both TFC and “the League” (which I presume means the Honduran one) for another two years. That part confuses me entirely because I thought he was out of contract with TFC and have no idea how he could have a contract with the entire Honduran football league. Please. Anyone able to read Spanish feel free to weigh in and sort this out.

Guevara also had this to say about TFC’s season: “Unfortunately we were out of it (the playoffs); I can’t say it was a good year because we didn’t qualify for the finals, but I thank God in that individually I had a good season.”

  1. I know it isn’t popular to say, but dropping Amado would be a mistake.

  2. hey squizz, big it’s called football fan here from los angeles. when amado refers to the “league”, he’s talking about mls and not the honduran league. i think he’s clarifying for the honduran audience that it’s not only tfc he is dealing with, but also mls (i’m assuming their contractual system is like the rest of the world’s…). he says he wants to play for motagua b/c to stay in shape for the world cup, ala beckham, which seems reasonable to me. fyi, there is no mention that he doesn’t want to go back to tfc. let me take this opportunity to thank you guys for all you’ve done and i’m glad i could contribute in a small way. cheers!

    • Hey Cory, thanks so much for the translation. I probably should have clarified that nothing in the article suggested he didn’t want to return to TFC. Cheers!

    • Cory, thanks for the kind words. This post was actually written by Grant, one of the other “some Canadian guys”, but it seems as though he’s taken your words to heart.

Enjoy the second leg of the SUPERCLASSICO (shing shing!).

  3. excuse me grant for the mistaken identity. i also rss the podcast from this site, which is indeed terrific. keep up the good work, it’s a pleasure to follow…
