Letting MFUSA do my work for me
For a few days I’ve been meaning to write a post about how MLS should just go to a single-table system and eliminate the needless, convoluted cross-over tiebreaking bullshit. Well, Jason Davis over at Match Fit USA beat me to the punch. Most of the argument can be extended to the other North American sports, wherein an antiquated geography-based “division” system does nothing but help ensure that mediocre teams get good seedings in the playoffs simply because they’re in a weak division (see: last year’s Arizona Cardinals, the NHL’s Southeast division for much of the decade, etc.)
But Jason makes the case quite well when it comes to MLS in particular, so if you haven’t done so already, go give his piece a read.
